 In this webinar, we will examine the key processes involved in emergent writing, including its domains and developmental stages and the significance of physical development. We will review methods for supporting children's (3-5 years old) writing through classroom materials, the environmental setup, modeling techniques, and showcasing children's writing samples. Incorporated throughout this webinar are research-based resources, developmentally appropriate practices, and purposeful instructional strategies. Participants will leave with practical ideas for creating writing-rich spaces that encourage exploration and engagement. Attention will also be given to selecting activities that match children’s developmental levels.
Teachers, therapists, social workers, and other early childhood professionals working with young children will benefit from this webinar.

Speaker's Biography

With more than two decades of experience in early childhood education, Cindie Marquez began her career at a Community College Lab School, where she observed, evaluated, mentored, and modeled for college practicum students while providing care for children ages two to five. Her professional journey includes serving as a QRIS Coach with the San Diego County Office of Education and as an Education Coordinator with a nonprofit agency, where she collaborated with diverse educators and administrators. She provided instructional support through mentoring, modeling, goal setting, observation, feedback, reflective coaching, and by developing and facilitating professional development events tailored to both agency and regional needs. Cindie is certified as a CLASS Observer and Trainer for Preschool through Third Grade, an Inclusion Facilitator through Beginning Together/WestEd, and an Infant-Toddler Pyramid Model Trainer through National Center for Pyramid Model Innovations. She has also had the privilege of presenting at several California Association for the Education of Young Children conferences.

Host's Biography

Dr. Scott Mesh is the Director of Young Child Learning and the CEO and Co-Founder of Los Niños Services which serves 2,000 young children with special needs each year through homecare and center services. He is a Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years of experience working with young children and their families and is an expert on assessing young children for developmental disabilities and autism. He has helped thousands of parents over the years make the transition to gaining help for their children through early childhood special education services. He is a leader in early childhood development and working effectively with parents.
